"Yes Sir." You nodded at your boss, William T. Spears, before leaving his office. You were one of the few female dispatch reapers, so you were given the easier assignments, even though you had begged for more challenging  ones. Now you had an assignment, finally one which would be worth your time, even though you were being forced to work with a partner. Ronald Knox. The shinigami who had gone out with every women within London, and possibly all of the women in England. Of course, it just had to be him.
You sighed as you slowly walked through the hall. It was fairly late and most people had gone home, but your collection time was at 12:00, and going to your apartment and coming back an hour later seemed pointless to you.
"Why, hello there, (y/n)! How are you doing?" You turned around. It was him.
"What do you want, Ronald? I'm busy here. Stop loitering, and leave me alone." You glared at his as you stormed off. Brushing your (h/c) out of your eyes, you yanked the door to your office open.
"Hey, wait!" Ronald grabbed the door as you began to shut it. He had run after you. "I-I want to talk to you..."
You sighed. Motioning for Ronald to sit in the chair in front of your desk, you took your place in your own chair, never once looking at him. "What do you want to talk about? I don't have forever Knox. This better be worth my time." Your voice was cold and emotionless as you spoke.
He stared at you for a moment, then ran his hand through his bi-colored hair, looking nervous. "Um, I wanted to talk about...the job we were given." He averted his eyes from yours as he spoke.
"It's at 12:00. There will be a total of thirty-seven souls collected. It's in the Eastern part of London. Is that not enough information?"
He looked down at the ground. "I-I guess...it's enough... Can I ask you a question?"
    "If you must."
"(y/n), do..do you like...anyone?" His voice was quiet, so quiet you nearly missed his question.
You took your time to answer the question. You had never liked anyone before, not even when you were a human. "No." 'Why did he care' you thought as you began reorganizing the papers on your desk. Your eyes flickered over to him. He was slouching in his chair, as if he had lost something...lost his pride. "Are we done here, Knox? If so, could you please leave. I would like to get some more of this paperwork sorted through before we have to leave."
He stood up, silent. You watched him as he dragged his feet across the floor and out of the room. Had something you said upset him? He had lost all of his cheeriness from earlier. You shook your head. You needed to work, not worry about the womanizer. But still, he seemed so depressed...

"Pick up the pace, Knox! We don't have all night to get there." You yelled back at Ronald, who was running behind you. He still seemed bothered by something, but you shoved all thoughts of him out of your mind as you bounded across the streets. You had left just a few minutes ago, and if you didn't hurry you'd be late.
He began to run faster. Catching up to you he said, "Am I running fast enough now, (y/n)?"  He smiled at you as you nodded.
"Oh, my." You said as you came to a halt. The sky was ablaze. You heard screams and shouts from inside the building even as they slowly died out. Even though you had been a reaper for years, you still were somewhat disturbed by some of the gruesome ways people died. You sighed. Why did people have to die? Ronald stopped right beside you, his lawnmower in his hands, ready to collect the souls. You smiled to yourself as you stared into the flames.
"C'mon, lets go collect the souls." Ronald looked at you, his green eyes bright even against the light from the raging fire. You nodded. Pulling out your death scythe, one similar to William's, you dashed forward into the house, followed closely by Ronald and his lawnmower. One by one, you watched the people fall to the ground. Gritting your teeth, you pulled you scythe out of the last victim of the fire, and walked towards the exit. You felt pieces of the ceiling fall onto you, and ran outside.
"...Evelyn Reyes, Mitchel Key, and Amanda White. That's all of them." You and Ronald stood outside of the building, the flames flickering at your heels. Neither of you cared though. You stared up at the building, amazed it hadn't fallen yet. It had been burning for an hour now. Slowly, your gaze turned to Ronald.
Ronald nodded. "Yup. That's all of them." He smiled at you. "So, do we need to go report back to William?"
I shook my head. "I'll go tell him that everything went smoothly. You go back to wherever you live." You returned his smile, even though as much as you thought you hated him, he didn't seem to be half bad when you got to know him. "I guess... Goodnight." You laughed at yourself on the inside. Why were you being even somewhat nice to him?
He grabbed your wrist and looked back at the burning building. "Are you sure? I-I can go with you..if you want." Ronald avoided your gaze.
"No, I'll be fine by myself. Besides-" He grabbed your arms and pulled you against him. You gasped as you felt your face turn red. "Wha-What?"
"I-I love you, (y/n)." He stuttered. He pressed his lips against yours.
You stared at him for a moment before wrapping your arms around him. The red sky behind you flickered as you whispered against his lips, "I love you too."

Contest Entry for ~iYogurt's contest freak-of-games.deviantart.com/…
Ronald Knox is one of my favorite Shinigami from Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji, so when I found out about this contest (earlier today >:D) I decided to do a Xreader with him.
